For us though, we're mostly looking forward to the FIBA World Championships in Spain. Of course there's the second season of the SA Basketball National League 2014 season, with a lot of expectations for the game of basketball in the country. So, we're keenly interested to see how the basketball landscape we be in 2014. Stay on cue>> The Basketball National League (BNL) 2013 drew to a thrill a minute conclusion at the Wembley Stadium indoor arena, when Tshwane Suns convincingly beat the Mbombela Wildcats to become the inaugural champs of the seminal season. The fans came through in numbers to support their favourite team! None were more vocal that the Tshwane Suns faithful, that kept the energy high throughout the thrill-a-minute tussle. It was certainly a fitting close to this exciting basketball season. The Hounorable Minister of Sport & Recreation Fikile Mbalula was on hand to see off the proceedings and handover the trophy to the winning team. We think that this is a solid start in the new chapter of SA basketball and trust the game will grow from strength to strength! Stay on cue>> The weekend of 9-11 August 2013 was abuzz with activity geared towards highlighting the women in our nation and focus on the contribution in our lives.
The Ekurhuleni Basketball Association (EBA) organised the Ekurhuleni Invitational Women's Basketball Tournament, with two categories: Senior Women and Women under 18. The senior category featured the Soweto Raptors, Jozi Nuggets, University of Pretoria, the Vaal University of Technology and two international guest teams: Maxaquene from Mozambique and the Lakers from Zimbabwe. We would like to congratulate the following winning teams: Senior - Vaal University of Technology (VUT) u18 - Ekurhuleni Rubies Congratulations to Ekurhuleni Basketball Association (EBA) on hosting a successful event and we look forward to seeing the programme grow and become a big feature in the basketball calendar!
